HISTORY
January
1st, 2003, the Nevada Coalition of Police Organizations, Active
and Retired Law Enforcement Officers was founded. The intent
of this Coalition is to bring together all police organizations/clubs
here in the Las Vegas valley to focus on common issues and
concerns. Each organization/club was contacted and was asked
to identify two representatives to represent their respective
organization/club. The Coalition meets once a month.
The
Coalition Administrator was identified and voted on by the
participating member organizations. This individual will be
responsible to chair the monthly meetings, prepare the agenda
maintain an up to date contact list of participating individuals
and be the only spokesperson for the Coalition.
A
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was drafted to outline the
goals and responsibilities of each participating organization/club.
Each representative will sign this MOU.
A
number of issues were placed on the table for discussion at
the first meeting of the Coalition. The following details some
key issues to be addressed:
The
formation of an all Volunteer Homeland Reserve Unit
which would assist the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department,
North Las Vegas Police Department, Boulder City Police
Department and the Henderson Police Department in a time
of crisis. The types of situations this unit would be called
upon to assist could include terrorist activity, child
kidnappings or missing children, and major power outage
in the city, floods or other major disasters. The Unit
will be made of volunteers with prior police experience
and would be organized into a professional team with leadership,
dedication and organization.
Consider
pursuing the issuance of a special license plate in
Nevada for Retired Law Enforcement Officers. Survey will
be conducted among the membership of the Coalition organizations/clubs
to see what the interest is before proceeding.
Develop
plans for a Coalition picnic to be held in the fall
of each year. Bonding with other Law Enforcement Officers
at this type of an event is the key to the success of
the Coalition.
Establish
a Computer Training program to assist all those organization/club
members who are not familiar with the use of a computer.
